Strawberries with Shortbread and Nutella “Jumble”
Just one of those things that happened one day, and it was better than anticipated. Be sure to use good shortbread, or don’t bother.
INGREDIENTS:
1 basket cleaned and trimmed strawberries, cut into ½-inch pieces
Depending on the size, 2-4 shortbread cookies per person (8-16)
Nutella as needed, around 1 cup
METHOD:
Smear enough Nutella on each shortbread to cover it well. Place on a large cutting board and cut into ½-inch bits. Divide evenly between 4 largish bowls.
Add strawberries to equal or exceed by a little the volume of Nutella-ed shortbread, and gently mix.
Serve and use your fingers to get all the crumbs and Nutella stuck to the inside of the bowl.
Chef’s Notes: Lousy cookies just won’t cut it here. If you make your own shortbread, ramp up the heat by 25 degrees in the last 10-15 minutes to achieve a nice golden top which will be a bit crisp. Perfect for spreading smear onto. You could also just crumble the shortbread over the Nutella and mix them in, and then mix in berries. Or mix the cookies and Nutella and place in bowls and let people dip or spread it onto strawberries. There are other types of chocolate-nut spreads out there that work as well, so feel free to try those.
