blueberries in hand croppedWe’re bracing for the hot weather this week. It can be a struggle to make sure water gets to all the crops that need it when it gets this hot. We also try to do as much of the harvesting as possible early in the morning. This is most important for delicate vegetables like lettuce and for the strawberries, which will move quickly from ripe to rotten if they are too warm when they are picked. Fortunately temperatures are expected to moderate after Wednesday, and we don’t expect any permanent damage to the strawberry field.

Our blueberries are coming in strong and early this year, though the varieties are ripening in opposite order from last year! We don’t know if we should expect a shorter season or if they’ll keep at it for awhile, but we’ve had some requests for a u-pick, so we’ll go ahead and schedule one for this Saturday. Come out from 10 am to 1 pm and pick your own. The cost will be $5/lb. No charge for entry. Bring your own containers if you can. Guests and kids are welcome. Directions here.

See you Saturday!
